Robert Penna Awarded Another Fellowship: the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.

Picture Congratulations Robert F. Penna, Class of 2007, for being the recipient of a prestegious National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. As a result of Robert's outstanding undergraduate academic performace, he has already received the following scholarships and fellowships:
-- Freshmen Schulumberger Scholarship, 2004
-- Barry M Goldwater Scholarship, 2005
-- John W. Radu Scholarship, 2005-2006
-- Winston Churchill Fellowship to Cambridge, 2007-2008

Penna, of Eden, N.Y., is pursuing a bachelor of arts with honors in mathematics as well as a bachelor of science degree in physics. He was named a Churchill Scholar earlier this year and also won the Goldwater Scholarship in 2005 as a sophomore. As a Churchill Scholar at Cambridge University, Penna will pursue the Certificate of Advanced Study in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. Upon completion of the masterÃ∞¢ââ≈√â√˚ s program, Penna plans to pursue his doctorate in astrophysics at Harvard University.

In addition, UR Physics major Stephen Privitera earned honorable mentions in the 2007 NSF competition. Last year, Stephen was also selected as a 2006 Goldwater Scholar. Stephen, a Physics and Mathematics double major, joined our department as an undergraduate in 2004. Stephen has been working for Professor S. Rajeev at University of Rochester, in theoretical particle physics as part of the department's Research for Undergraduate Program,
