Bigelow and Novotny Elected Fellows of the Optical Society of America in 2007
Prof. Nicholas N. Bigelow Lee A. DuBridge Professor of Physics (and Professor of Optics) was elected fellow of the Optical Society of America in 2007 for "Pioneering experimental leadership in both spin squeezing and two-species trapping of ultra-cold atoms and for service through meeting organization and journal editing". Prof. Lukas Novotny Associate Professor of Optics (and Physics) was elected fellow of the Optical Society of America in 2007 for "Pioneering contributions to the fields of nano-microscopy and nano-spectroscopy, and for leadership in the community of near-field optics". Last year, Prof. Steven D. Jacobs Senior Scientist at the LLE and Professor of Optics and Chemical Engineering was Elected Fellow of the Optical Society of America in 2006 "For significant contributions to the development and understanding of magneto-rheological finishing and liquid crystal optics, and for pioneering work in educational outreach and teacher training"

OSA members who have served with distinction in the advancement of optics may be proposed for election to the class of Fellow. This honor is reserved to no more than 10% of the total membership.
Current fellow members may nominate regular members for election. The deadline for nominations is June 15.
