John C. Howell, Assistant Professor of Physics, has been selected to receive the 2006 Adolph Lomb Medal from the Optical Society of America "For innovative contributions in quantum optics, particularly aspects of quantum cloning, violations of Bell's inequalities and maximal photonic entanglement."/p>

A reception in honor of John Howell's award was sponsored by the Department of Physics and Astronomy on Monday March 6, 2006 4:30-5:30 pm in BL208.

Adolph Lomb was OSA's treasurer from its founding until his death in 1932. In recognition of his devotion to OSA and the advancement of optics, the Adolph Lomb Medal, established in 1940, is presented to a person who has made a noteworthy contribution to optics at an early age. The candidate cannot be older than the age of 35 in the calendar year of presentation.
