Kam Wai Clifford Chan Awarded University Messersmith Fellowship in 2003
We have been informed by Dean Bruce Jacobs that Mr. Cliff Chan, a graduate student working with Professor Eberly in the area of theoretical quantum optics, was awarded the Universty Messersmith Fellowship in 2003.
Chan has seven publications in the area of quantum entanglement and quantum computation. This is a new area that is both fundamental, in that it studies the paradoxes that originate from the the theory of quantum mechanics, as well as the possible practical applications such as quantum computing and cryptography.
So far, Chan has given five presentation on his work. He has also been invited by Boston University group to visit and advise their experimental group in this area.
The fellowship is for one year at the rate of $18,000 per year.
