Len Mandel and Three Other UR Faculty Elected to the National Academy
We have been informed by Bill Phillips that Len Mandel was elected posthumously to the National Academy. Len was one of four from Rochester (3 from UR and one from Xerox) named as NAS members today during the business session of the 138th annual meeting of the Academy.

This year's announcement by the National Academy lists 72 new members in 2001. Among them are the following four members who are associated with Rochester:
JONES, RONALD WINTHROP; Xerox Professor of Economics, department of economics, University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y.
MILLON, RENE; Professor Emeritus, department of anthropology, University of Rochester
MANDEL, LEONARD; Lee A. DuBridge Professor Emeritus of Physics and Optics, department of physics and astronomy, University of Rochester
DUKE, CHARLES B.; vice president and senior research fellow, Xerox Research and Technology, Xerox Corp., Webster, N.Y. (former Adjunct Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Rochester).
