Professor Kevin McFarland will be a receipient of a $75,000 Cotrell Scholars Award in May of 2001. McFarland is the first faculty from Rochester to receive this award since its inception in 1994. About 15 awards are given yearly (to faculty in astronomy, chemistry or physics departments) nationwide.
The Cotrell Scholars Awards ( http://www.rescorp.org/csguide.html ) are given by the Research Corporation ( http://www.rescorp.org/ ) to junior tenure faculty in the 3rd calendar year of their first appointment. Designed for younger faculty members who wish to excel at both teaching and research, the awards aim to help the holders become outstanding scientists and educators as well as tomorrow's academic and scientific leaders.
Winners of Cotrell Scholars Award in previous years can be found at http://www.rescorp.org/csa_awardees.htm and http://www.rescorp.org/fall2001.pdf
