Professor Joseph H. Eberly Named Foreign Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences
On 25 May 2000 Professor Joseph H. Eberly, Carnegie Professor of Physics and Professor of Optics, was named a Foreign Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Professor Eberly in an internationally recognized expert in theoretical quantum optics. He has been the recipient of many distinctions and awards including the Charles H. Townes Award of the Optical Society of America, the Goergen Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and the Smoluchowski Medal of the Physical Society of Poland. In a recent workshop held at the University in honor of Professor Eberly's career, a formal presentation of Foreign Membership was made by Professor Iwo Bialynicki-Birula on behalf of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
