It is my pleasure to announce that the University Board of Trusties, at their sesquicentenial meeting, has honored Professor Nick Bigelow with appointment as the Lee A. DuBridge Professor of Physics.

Professor Bigelow is a distinguished researcher in the field of experimental and theoretical quantum optics. His recent research has focussed on Bose-Einstein condensates. Bigelow, an excellent teacher who was awarded the Faculty Teaching Award in Physics in 1998, also serves as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in Physics.

There will be a reception (featuring wine and cheese) to celebrate Prof. Bigelow's appointment as Lee A. DuBridge Professor of Physics on Monday November 6, 2000, 3:30 pm in B&L 271. Please join me in congratulating Prof. Bigelow on this happy occasion in his honor.
