Blackman Receives DOE Plasma Physics Junior Faculty Development Award
Eric Blackman, Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Rochester has received a Plasma Physics Junior Faculty Development Award from the Department of Energy. The Plasma Physics Junior Faculty Development Program was started in FY 1997. This year, the program has been slated to fund up to three awards nationwide.
(see http://www.sc.doe.gov/production/grants/fr99_26.html)
A principal goal of this program is to identify exceptionally talented plasma faculty members early in their careers and assist and facilitate the development of their research programs. Blackman, whose work is in Theortical Plasma Astrophysics, has been awarded $450,000 for three years (equal to the maximum annual funding level of $150,000 per year for this program).
Blackman received his BS in Physics and BS in Mathematics from MIT in 1990, CASM with honors from Cambridge in 1991, and his Ph.D. in Theoretical Plasma Astrophysics from Harvard in 1995. He held postoctoral positions at Cambridge and Caltech before joining the faculty at Rochester on January 2000.
