Biographical Sketch
Prof. Fulbright received his A.B. (1940) and his Ph.D. (1944) in Physics, both from Washington University. He served as Physicist and Group Leader at Los Alamos National Laboratory (1944-46) before joining the University as an Assistant Professor of Physics in 1950. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1952 and to Professor in 1956. Prof. Fulbright served as Director of the Experimental Nuclear Structure Group at the University from 1950 to 1961. He was a Guggenheim and Fulbright Scholar, and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
Research
Prof. Fulbright's research was principally concerned with nuclear structure and nuclear reaction mechanisms, especially those involving light nuclei. He has had experience in the design and construction of nuclear accelerators, electronic instruments, and gas-filled nuclear particle detectors. His interest has recently shifted to radio astronomy.
