Biographical Sketch
Prof. Savedoff received his A.B. (1948) from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in Astronomy (1951) from Princeton University. After research positions at the Mt. Wilson and Palomar Observatories (1951-52) and the Leiden Observatory (1952-53), he joined the University as a Research Associate in 1953. He was appointed an Assistant Professor of Optics (1956-69) and of Physics (1957-59), an Associate Professor of Physics (1959-64), and Professor of Astronomy (1964-1991). In 1991 he became Professor Emeritus of Astronomy.
Research
Prof. Savedoff's research is in the area of Theoretical Astrophysics. He has been primarily concerned with stellar interiors, with the interstellar medium, and with hydrodynamics on cosmic scales.
