Biographical Sketch

Prof. Quillen received her B.A. in Physics from Harvard/Radcliffe University and her Ph.D. in Physics from Caltech (1993). She did postoctoral work at The Ohio-State University where she received Columbus Postdoctoral Fellowship, Ohio State (1993-1996), and also at the Steward Observatory at the University of Arizona. Prof. Quillen joined the University of Rochester in 2002 as Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy, whe was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006.

Research

Prof. Quillen's research in Astronomy focuses on the dynamics of gas and stars in galaxies, the astrophysics of active galactic nuclei, and the dynamics of planetesimals in young planetary systems. She will be using observations from NASA Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF), a satellite observatory scheduled to be launched in July 2002, to construct models for the emission, growth and evolution of massive black holes and to search for evidence of resonant dynamics caused by planets in dusty debris disks surrounding nearby stars.
