Biographical Sketch
Dr. Korotkova received her B.S. in Applied Mathematics (1999) from Samara State University (Russia), her M.S. in Mathematical Sciences (2002) and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics (2003) from the University of Central Florida. She was a research scientist at the College of Optics and Photonics, University of Central Florida (2003-2004). She joined the University of Rochester as research associate in Physics (2004-2006) and was promoted to scientist in 2006, and to Assistant Professor (research) in 2007.
Dr. Korotkova is a member of the Rochester Theory Center for Optical Science and Engineering.
Research
Dr. Korotkova's research interests are in theoretical Quantum Optics, especially in the theories of coherence and polarization of light. She as been conducting theoretical investigations relating to generation, free space propagation, interaction with various media and detection of electromagnetic light fields of both deterministic and random nature. Special attention is paid to propagation of electromagnetic waves in human tissues and in turbulent atmosphere in connection with clear-air communications and laser radar systems. Of particular interest are recently discovered changes in polarization properties of stochastic light beams on propagation and their applications.
