Biographical Sketch
Prof. Betti recevied his B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Rome (1987), and his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1992). He joined the University as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Scientist at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics in 1991. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and of Physics, in 1997, and to Professor in 2002. Prof. Betti was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2001.
Research
Prof. Betti's research is in area of Theoretical Plasma Physics with particular focus on the study of thermonuclear plasmas for applications in controlled thermonuclear fusion (magnetic and inertial). Prof. Betti is a member of the University's interdisciplinary program in High Energy Density Plasma in collaboration with the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. He is also co-director of the University of Rochester Fusion Science Center .
