The Department offers minors in physics and in astronomy. General information about Minors can be found in the Official Undergraduate Bulletin. The Department requirements for these degrees are:

Physics

• An introductory sequence: typically PHY 121, 122 and 123, or PHY 141, 142 and 143.
• Any three of the following courses: PHY 217, 218, 227, 235W, 237, 243W, 244W, 246, 250, 251, 252, 253, 254, 255W, 256 and 258W.
• For admission to the minor in physics, a student must attain an average of at least 2.0 in the introductory Physics sequences and in all introductory mathematics courses.
• The selection of advanced courses is to be approved by the undergraduate advisor in physics, who will be concerned with the general coherence of the proposed program, the student's plans for any prerequisites in mathematics, and the mutual reinforcements between the student's minor and major field of stude.
• The undergraduate physics advisor must approve all course choices.

Astronomy

• An introductory sequence: typically PHY 121, 122 and 123, or PHY 141, 142 and 143.
• One of three descriptive astronomy courses: AST 102, 104, 105 or 111; AST 111 is preferred.
• The introductory astrophysics course AST 142.
• Two 200 level astronomy courses. (Four of these are offered on a two-year cycle. These courses usually require concurrent or prerequisite registration in 200 level mathematics and physics courses).
• For admission to a minor in astronomy, a student must attain an average of at least a 2.0 in all the introductory 100 level astronomy, physics and mathematics courses.
• Concentrators in physics can elect a minor in astronomy.
• The undergraduate astronomy advisor must approve all course choices.
