PHY 121 Mechanics
Semester: Spring and Summer I
Credit Hours: 4
Prerequisite: MTH 141 or MTH 161 (may be taken concurrently); prior knowledge of introductory calculus (simple integration and differentiation).
First semester of a three-course sequence for students planning to major in physics, other physical sciences, and engineering. Motion in one and two dimensions; Newton's laws; work and energy; conservation of energy; systems of particles; rotations; oscillations; gravity; thermodynamics. In addition to Two 75-minute lectures each week, One workshop/recitation each week and One three-hour laboratory every other week is required. Laboratory and workshop/recitation registration is done at the sametime as the course registration. This course is offered in Spring and Summer session (A-6).
