Department Awards

The Graduate Teaching Award

Annual prize awarded for the best graduate teaching assistant in the Department. Decisions on these prizes are made by the Department of Physics and Astronomy Support and Awards Chair and Chair of the TA Training Committee. The prize includes a monetary award of $200.

Honorable Mention Citation as an excellent Teaching Assistant AAPT
(American Association of Physics Teachers)

Annual prize awarded to an outstanding teaching assistant. Nominee receives a complimentary student membership in AAPT. Student will receive either the American Journal of Physics or The Physics Teacher. Decisions on these prizes are made by the Department of Physics and Astronomy Support and Awards Chair and Chair of the TA Training Committee.

The Susumu Okubo Prize

Annual prize awarded for the best performance on the preliminary exam. Decision on the prize is made by the Department of Physics and Astronomy Graduate Examinations Committee. The prize includes a monetary award of $200.

The Harry E. Gove Thesis Prize

This prize is awarded to students, who in the judgement of the Selection Committee, receive the Ph.D. degree on the basis of exceptional experimental research based at the Nuclear Research Laboratory. In recognition of the interdisciplinary nature of the NSRL, the prize shall not be restricted to students in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and is not necessarily awarded in every year. The prize includes a monetary award of $200.

The Frederick Lobkowicz Thesis Prize

This prize, established by friends and colleagues of Fred Lobkowicz, is awarded to graduating Ph.D. students in experimental high-energy nuclear or particle physics, whose accomplishments best reflect the high standards and exceptional quality of research of the late Professor Lobkowicz. This prize includes a monetary award of $600.

University Awards

The Edward Peck Curtis Award

Awarded for excellence in teaching by a graduate student. The graduate student must be full-time and must be teaching undergraduates. The student is nominated by the department and the winner is selected by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Affairs. This prize includes a monetary award of $500.
